He's charming, charismatic, flirty and horribly shameless about it. He's always willing to rock the boat just a bit because he can, much to the chagrin of his parents. In high school, he was often in the office for his various antics and proud of it. He often acts in defiance to his rich upbringing, yet at the same time, Ryder has a certain sense of gallantry and culture that comes from his upbringing making him the staff's only Arts & Entertainment reporter to drive a motorcycle. He's loyal to his friends and his “adopted” family, and would do anything for them. He's resisted attempts to tie him into a committed relationship due to his childhood spent watching his parents unhappy one. He's not exactly a player but more like he's chosen not to get involved with girls who want something long-term. top Appearance Ryder has dark hair that is often worn messy and beautiful blue eyes. He had the boyish kind of face that girls always think is cute and often goes with a five o'clock shadow when he can get away with it. His clothing style can only be described as metrosexual He can look polished when he has to but is rather fond of jeans and a fitted t-shirt. Ryder works out and it often shows. He's over six feet tall and his build leans towards the athletic side. His father had a habit of abusing prescription drugs and his mother fed off of drama like no one's business. They drove each other up the wall and Ryder was often in the crossfire when they did pay attention to him. Both had high expectations for him, his mother in particular. She had dreams of him becoming a doctor, lawyer, politician, or businessman. With a fae's tendency to get even and the impish nature of Puck, he tended to get “even” with his parents by getting into trouble and at other times, he got into trouble just to get attention. There was one relief for Ryder – his best friend Chance Reed whom he met when they were six. Ryder defended Chance from a bully on the playground and they were soon inseparable. Richard and Lacey Reed became the parents he truly wanted and he adopted Chance's protective tendencies towards his sister's (although not to the same degree). While part of him tried to drive his parents nut and went destructive, there was enough of him that wanted to make his other “parents” proud so he never got too deep into trouble. top Father's Addiction & Leah White Ryder played pitcher on the baseball team, his grandfather gave him his first glove. Middle school was a crazy time in Ryder's life. His father's addiction finally became known when he stole Ryder's pain medication for a broken arm. Betrayed and upset, Ryder lashed out, particularly after his father would overdose and get sent to rehab. By high school, he was afraid to form close relationships with anyone other than the Reeds. He got involved with girls for brief periods, only picking girls he thought were looking for a fling. During high school, he and Chance played for the Lakeside Preparatory Academy baseball team (Ryder was pitcher) and Ryder wrote for the school newspaper. At sixteen, his grandfather Jamison Evans died, leaving him everything to his parents fury. With the only blood relation he cared about gone, he lashed out more. Senior year found him romantically involved with Leah White. Ryder was unaware that she was in love with him and started to fall for her himself, which scared him a little. He even went so far as to ruin a debutante ball by spiking the punch with vodka when his parents made him escort another girl. Leah planned to go to California for school after graduation, and Ryder hated to see her go. Their last time together was graduation, and Ryder had no idea that she became pregnant with his son on that night. top College Years Ryder attended the University of Chicago where he studied Journalism much to the dismay of his parents. It took him a long time to even attempt to get over Leah (which he never fully did). The summer Chance got his New York internship, Ryder got a motorcycle which freaked out Chance and Lacey Reed both. He won a internship at the Tribune and impressed the staff enough that he was given a position as a reporter for Arts & Entertainment upon graduating. He's continued to stay in college.top What's the Story Introduction Ryder first appeared in flashback thread playing baseball with Chance Reed during a game against Forrester in which they came to the defense of Cassie Mathews. top Matchmaking & Reunion with Leah Leah, the love of Ryder's life and their son Jamison “Jamie” Ryder. Ryder was given instructions to find Chance Reed a girlfriend by Rebecca Reed and Ryder ran into Cassie Mathews, Leah's old best friend. Knowing that Cassie had a thing for Chance in high school, he quickly steers them back towards each other again, enlisting most of the Reed girls and Chance's to help. His efforts set him against Worn Slippers model Blake Quinn in particular. As soon as Blake is out of the picture, Ryder goes with Chance to LA (where Ryder is seeing his father who's in rehab – again). Ryder ends up pulling a young boy awake from an oncoming car in the streets and discovers that he's Jamison “Jamie” Ryder White, the son he had with Leah. The revelation puts him in a tailspin, making him think that Leah didn't trust him and had moved on from him. An emotional mess, Ryder returns to Chicago and eventually gets into a motorcycle accident, bringing Leah and Jamie to see him. He makes the decision to ask Leah to let him into Jamie's life and hopes to win her back, finally admitting his feelings for her.top Storylines (Based on Nickleback songs) Someday: She's the only girl who ever made him risk his commitment issues and Ryder had no idea they had a son together but he'll now fight to get her back.
